Exploring the policies and practicalities of ministering into the crisis of pandemic schooling
Mind the Gaps – webinar and office hours
This webinar, held on September 1st, was facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth DeGaynor, Th.D. (Assistant Professor of Practical Theology and Christian Formation at Virginia Theological Seminary) included conversation partners from the policy realm (Raymond C. Pierce, President and CEO of Southern Education Foundation), the practical realm (Rev. Susan Pennock, Consultant to North Carolina Congregations for Children and Pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church – New Ellenton, South Carolina), and faithful advocacy (Dr. Nicole Baker Fulgham, Founder and President, The Expectations Project).
This webinar addressed topics related to the current educational crisis in the United States and how churches might be of service to the schools in their communities. We at Virginia Theological Seminary are committed to the ongoing process of discernment and faithful action for the sake of all children.
The office hours spoke to the need for conversation around the intersection of school and church ministries. What are the specific needs in your community? What are the resources/services already in place? What resources do you have to offer? What are you considering? How might we support your efforts? We at VTS are committed to the ongoing process of discernment and faithful action for the sake of all children.
